Lawmakers across the aisle are responding to President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” that won the Senator’s vote on Saturday night.
R-Wis. Sen. Ron Johnson of the group flipped the vote from “no” to “yes” in a dramatic way, saying the mammoth bill is a “necessary first step” to wipe out the financial sustainability and the chaos left behind by the Biden administration.
“Biden and the Democrats left us with the enormous mess we are trying to clean up. This is open borders, war, massive deficits,” Johnson said. “After working with President Trump and his extremely capable economic team for a few weeks, I am confident that he will consider this a necessary first step and support my efforts to guide America on the path to fiscal sustainability.”
The 51-49 votes were taken along the party line, with Sen. Thom Tillis (RN.C.) and R-Ky. Only Randpole voted against unlocking the 20-hour marathon on the bill.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., was one of the Democrats for what he called an “extreme” bill.
“Senate Republicans are in a hurry to pass a radical bill that was released to the public late at night, and I hope that the Americans don’t realize what’s in it,” Schumer said in a statement. “If Senate Republicans don’t tell Americans what this bill is, Democrats are going to force this room to read from start to finish.”
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., became an aide at a press conference and commented on President Donald Trump’s expenditure and tax bills on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Washington Capitol on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The bill will not be discussed anytime soon, thanks to Senate Democrats’ plans to force an entire 940-page legislative giant on the Senate floor.
But R-FLA Sen. Rick Scott said he is “prideful” that he will work with Trump on the bill and “put our country on the path to balancing the budget after years of Democrats’ reckless spending.”
Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” faces Republican family feud as the Senate reveals the final text
Trump says he wants a bill that must pass the Senate before July 4th at his desk and before he can be sent to the House of Representatives for a vote.
Trump called the Senate vote a “big victory” and praised Senators Johnson, Scott, Mike Lee, R-Aris, Cynthia Ramis, R. Wyo and Cynthia Ramis for his true social platform posts.
“They are people who truly love our country, along with all the other Republican patriots who voted for the bill!” Trump wrote. “As President of the United States, I am proud of them all, and I will work with them to grow the economy, reduce wasteful spending, fight for military/veterinarians, help the Medicaid system to help those who really need it, and protect the Second Amendment.
