President Donald Trump fired Kim Sadgett, director of the National Portrait Gallery, for being a “strong supporter” of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
Trump announced the end of the show with a post about Truth Social on Friday afternoon.
“After many people’s requests and recommendations, this has led me to terminate Kim Sadgett’s employment as director of the National Portrait Gallery,” the president wrote. “She is a very partisan and a strong supporter of Day, and is totally inappropriate for her position. Her alternative will soon be named. Thank you for paying attention to this issue!”
White House officials told Fox News Digital that Sadgett has donated $3,982 to Democrats, including former President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Sadgett also reportedly contributed to other Democrats, including former Vice President Kamala Harris.

The White House also pointed to a photo of Trump’s gallery curated by Sadgett. The caption on the photo states, “He was shot twice each on charges of abuse of power and incitement of rebellion after his supporters attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, and after losing to Joe Biden in 2020, he is the only president after winning a historic comeback in the 2024 election. The second term of unconsensual.”
White House officials also said that Sadgett was ironic. “We are trying not to edit, I don’t want the label to read and the curator’s opinions to get a sense of that person.
The National Portrait Gallery did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comments on the issue.

According to the National Portrait Gallery website, Sadgett was the first woman to serve as director of the National Portrait Gallery, and spent her time in the role looking for ways to place her experiences and creativity at the heart of learning and civic consciousness.
Prior to taking up this position, Sadgett was president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Historical Society, and held other positions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Her biographies state that she was born in Nigeria, raised in Australia and a Dutch citizen. She came to the United States with her family in 1997.

Hours after taking the oath of office on January 20th on his inauguration day, Trump signed an executive order to remove all DEI programs from the federal government.
A day later, the President instructed the Personnel Management Bureau to inform the agency and department heads to close all DEI offices and to place those government workers in those offices on paid leave.
Earlier this month, Trump fired Silla Permater. Silla Permutter served the US Copyright Office, which came a few days after he ended Congressional librarian Carla Hayden. The end was part of the ongoing cleansing of administrations of government officials who are perceived to oppose Trump and his agenda.

The Associated Press previously reported that both women were fired by email.
Hayden tapped Perlmutter in October 2020 to lead the copyright office.
