President Donald Trump had previously refrained from talking about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s illness, but that was over.
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has changed the nature of their dynamics. The two appeared to have become friends, at least publicly, during Trump’s first administration, but their relationship was clarified as more recent conflicts continued.
In recent weeks, when asked about Putin, Trump refused to etch his words. Trump said he was tired of Putin at his cabinet meeting on July 8th and saw that he could impose new sanctions on Russia.
“We get a lot of bulls — if you want to know the truth, they’ve been thrown into us by Putin,” Trump said. “He’s always so lovely, but it turns out to be pointless.”

John Hardy, deputy director of the Russian Programmes for the Russian Foundation for Democracy, said Russia began to draw anger from Trump, dating back to March, after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire. However, Russia failed to board the ship in a ceasefire.
“I think since then, I think Trump has come to view Russians as a major obstacle to trading,” Hardy told Fox News Digital on Thursday.
Furthermore, Hardy said he was frustrated with Russia launching a drone and missile attack on Ukraine, even after Trump spoke directly with Putin.
“What makes him a kind of latch is the barrage of these Russian drones and missiles,” Hardy said. “It really seems to resonate with him.”
Since the Cabinet meeting in July, tensions have continued to escalate only between the US and Russia.
Trump announced on July 14 that he would sign off for “serious tariffs” on Russia if Moscow fails to agree to the peace agreement within 50 days. He then dramatically reduced the deadline to just 10-12 days. This ends on Friday.
The decision to reduce the timeline prompted former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to warn that “each new ultimate is a threat and a step towards war.”

In addition to economic sanctions, Trump responded to Medvedev and issued a rare statement revealing that two US Navy submarines will be driven in response to the escalation of threats from Russia.
“I ordered two nuclear submarines to be placed in the right area in case these stupid, inflammatory statements are more than that,” Trump said on August 1.
Trump’s disclosure of the existence of submarines puts additional pressure on Russia to come to the negotiation table, according to Brian Clark, retired submarine director and director of the Hudson Institute’s think tank Defense Concepts and Technology Center.
“We have tried to use very modest submarines to influence hostile behavior before, which is very unusual. We respond to the nuclear threat from Russia and do it against nuclear-powered enemies like Russia,” Clark told Fox News Digital Monday. “So I think this is essentially trying to push back Russia’s frequent and long-standing threat of using nuclear weapons in parts of the Ukrainian conflict.”

But momentum is picking up negotiations, with US envoy Steve Witkov meeting with President Putin on Wednesday.
Trump said in a post about the True Society that “great progress” was made during the meeting. And now, Trump and Putin are expected to meet in person in person in an attempt to ultimately advance negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Still, Hardy said he was skeptical that the meeting between Putin and Trump would bring meaningful progress.
“I don’t think the summit will produce a lot,” Hardy said. “And I think Putin can use the summit to appease Trump and buy more time, but while the attack on Ukraine continues, I think his goal is to recruit Trump to impose these strict conditions on Ukraine.”
Russia is calling for concessions to peace agreements, including banning participation in NATO in Ukraine, preventing foreign peacekeeping forces from deploying to Ukraine after the conflict, and previously coordinating parts of Ukraine’s borders.

“It’s up to him,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “We’re going to see what he has to say. It’s up to him. I’m extremely disappointed.”
The White House did not disclose details about potential Friday sanctions, but Trump said he would like to meet with Putin and Ukrainian President Voldi Mee Putin to resolve the conflict.
“The Russians have expressed their desire to meet President Trump and the president is open to this meeting,” White House press chief Karolyn Leavitt said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “President Trump wants to meet both Putin and Zelensky because he wants to end this brutal war. The White House is providing these potential meetings and details at the right time.”
