In an interview published Friday, President Trump asserted that he was serious about his talk of adding Canada as the 51st state, as a total rejection by Canadian leaders.
The president sat in an interview with Time Magazine. The reporter suggested that Trump may be “trolling a bit” in repeated comments that Canada should be absorbed by the US.
“In fact, no, I’m not,” Trump said in an interview Tuesday.
“Canada, what you said is, ‘Well, that’s, I might be trolling.’ But I’m not really trolling,” Trump added. “Canada is an interesting case.”
The president reiterated his frequent claims that the US is losing money to Canada due to the trade deficit, and that the US does not need to import Canadian products.
“We care for their army. We care for every aspect of their lives and we don’t need them to build a car for us,” Trump told time. “In fact, we don’t want them to build cars for us. We want to build our own cars. We don’t need their wood. We don’t need their energy. We don’t need anything from Canada.
Trump has been meditating for months on Canada’s becoming a nation, arbitrarily referring to the borders of both countries, and ha ha ha ha, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “governor.”
Some critics have suggested that Trump is not serious about the idea, but Trudeau and Canadian politicians are fighting to replace him as the prime minister repeatedly shuts down the notion that Canada will become a nation.
Trump also spoke about the acquisition of Greenland, an autonomous territory under the Kingdom of Denmark. The Danish leader rejected the idea.
The president told Time magazine that Greenland “will do very well if you think it’s important to us, even for national and international security.”
