Trump officials consider releasing a transcript for the interview with Gislaine Maxwell – NBC Los Angeles

The Trump administration is considering publicly publishing a transcript of a two-day interview with Gislane Maxwell last month, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News on Tuesday.

“We’re leaning towards transparency,” the source said.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator and best friend Maxwell in July for a two-day nine-hour interview. A former prosecutor told NBC News last month that it was very rare for a deputy Justice Commander to interview witnesses personally.

Blanche did not make any public statements about what Maxwell said or what will come next in Epstein’s investigation. A few days later, Maxwell was transferred from a Florida prison to a minimum prison in Texas, where the majority of prisoners work in non-violent and white-collar crimes.

Maxwell is sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in recruiting minors for sex and in human trafficking.

The BOP policy requires convicted sex offenders to be detained at least in a low-security level facility, so the prison’s own designation would have made Maxwell unable to qualify for transfer. The only work of the rules is when the Department’s designation and statement calculation center issues a waiver.

Epstein survivors and their families have denounced the transfer, calling it “priority treatment.” Former BOP officials likewise ridden the move, and former officials call it a “tragedy of justice.”

Maxwell is in the spotlight amid fallout from handling files related to Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in prison in 2019, awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

President Donald Trump’s base and some cabinet members have long advocated for the release of several files that promote conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death. Trump vowed to release files on the campaign trail last year if he was elected.

The issue became the source of division between Trump and his Magazine base after the Justice Department said last month that they wouldn’t release any more files related to the case.

Trump has sometimes dismissed the importance of the matter, but he recently directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to ask for the release of his related large ju court testimony. The order came after the Wall Street Journal reported in 2003 that Trump had sent Epstein a “bawdy” birthday card. Trump later sued the newspaper.

Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator and best friend Gislaine Maxwell has been moved to Texas’ lowest security federal prison camp.
