Harris dominates the field of potential Democratic candidates in a recent Emerson College poll commissioned by KTLA’s parent company, Nexstar Media, within Hill and California politics.
The poll surveyed registered Democrats in California earlier this month, asking who theoretically supports them in 2026.

Harris has not announced plans to take part in the governor race, but is reportedly considering options.
She won California in her presidential bid on November 5th, winning three other statewide campaigns.
Grenell, a Republican and Palm Springs resident, considered seeking a top office in the state when current government Gavin Newsom faces a recall election he overcame in 2021. Grenell later chose not to run one day before the filing deadline, according to Sacramento Bee.
Newsom was selected in 2018 and is currently completing his second term. However, due to the time limit, he is unable to run again.
Currently, former Senate President Lt. Colonel Eleni Kunarakis, former Senate President Pro Toni Atkins, former state controller Betty Yi, former Los Angeles mayor and chairman Antonio Villaraigosa, public leader Tony All Thurmonds participated in the 2026 race.
