On the same day, Vice President JD Vance visited Greenland, and President Donald Trump posted a compelling video highlighting the strong historical ties between the Arctic nation and the United States.
The 90-second video past US military efforts to defend and protect Greenland during World War II, when the US suffered hundreds of casualties after a Nazi U-boat sprinted through Dorchester and sank.
According to the Department of Defense, the U-boats struck in the middle of the night on February 3, 1943, killing dozens soon after, killing dozens of them, and dozens succumbed to the Atlantic ice waters. This incident remembers four army pastors giving up their lives to save others.

Trump remains optimistic about the odds to win Greenland: “I think that’s going to happen.”
“In the cold silence of the tundra, a bond was born, not from treaties or trade, but from blood and courage,” says the Clip’s narrator. “While Germany ruled Europe, the Nazis set their sights on the Arctic Circle. Greenland became an unconscious fighter, and the United States intervened to protect it rather than conquer.”
The video points out that around 1,000 service members, civilians and crew members were harboring the dangers of “hope, obligation, quiet horror” on the voyage they knew. However, after the attack, the frigid North Atlantic ocean “became a grave.”
“These four pastors gave up on the best of their lives and gave their lives so that others could live to protect America and Greenland,” the narrator says. “Their sacrifices helped us gain our freedom and we will never forget. Together, the Americans and Greenlanders stood like sentinels at the top of the world.”

A total of 672 people were killed during the fatal attack, according to the Department of Defense.
The video was created to ensure America’s greatness, a nonprofit organization created during the 2024 presidential election.
It also shows some clips of Greenland’s war and landscape images before claiming why Greenland needs to join forces with Greenland, and claiming that Greenland is facing new threats from Russian “invasion” and China’s “expansion.”

“Our shared legacy is built in the shadow of growing tensions with every joint mission, every Arctic patrol, every partnership melting ice, and this is more than just history,” the narrator says. “It’s destiny. Now is the time to stand together again for peace, security, for the future. America is standing in Greenland.”
Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also shared the video on X.
The video was posted by Trump as it doubled on Friday in an effort to acquire Greenland as part of the United States for international security purposes.
Danish territory has said it is seeking independence from Copenhagen and is not interested in becoming a part of the United States, but Trump has repeatedly offered, a desire to go back to his first administration and secure Greenland for the United States as Russia and China’s presence grows in the Arctic.

“I look at Greenland now, when I look at the waterways, there are ships from China and Russia all over the place, but that’s not possible,” Trump told reporters Friday. “We don’t rely on anyone to take care of Denmark or any of those situations. And we’re not talking about peace in the US, we’re talking about world peace, we’re talking about international security.”
Vance visited the target of Greenland commander and chief on Friday at Pitafik Space Station, the northernmost military facility of the Department of Defense.

He said Denmark is not doing a good job of keeping Greenland safe.
“What we think will happen is that the Greenlanders are trying to choose to become independent from Denmark,” Vance explained with a more toned approach from Trump’s previous statement. “And from there I’m going to have a conversation with the people of Greenland.”

The pastors who died in the attack were Methodist pastors George L. Fox, John P. Washington, Catholic priest, Dutch Reformed Minister Clark V. Pauling, and rabbinic Alexander D. Good. They were all awarded purple hearts and a prominent service cross for their actions that day. According to the Ministry of Defense, Congress has also created “four pastors’ ‘medals.”
