President Donald Trump announced Tuesday evening that he and Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelenki discussed at a viral meeting in the Vatican.
Trump spoke on Tuesday evening at a town hall hosted by News Nation, where he attended over the phone.
The two met for the first time since the controversial oval office meeting in February, but they both attended the papal funeral. Neither the White House nor the Ukrainian officials gave much detail about the nature or content of the lecture, except that they were “productive” and “symbolic.”

“We discussed a lot,” Zelenskyy posted to X following the virus conference. “We want all the outcomes we have covered. We will protect the lives of our people. A complete and unconditional ceasefire. A reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out. A very symbolic meeting that can become historic if we achieve joint outcomes.”
Although little details have been made about the meeting, Trump told reporters over the weekend that some of the pair’s discussions revolved around sending more weapons to Ukraine.
“He said he needed more weapons, but he’s been saying that for three years,” Trump said. “We’ll see what happens – we want to see what happens with regard to Russia. Russia, I was surprised and disappointed that we bombed those places after the discussion – very disappointed.”

Trump did not clarify details about the meeting with reporters, but added that the president is willing to give up on Crimea to secure a peace deal. Russia’s current annexation of Ukrainian territory has become a major fixture in negotiations between the two fighting countries, indicating that Zelensky is willing to sign a transaction that involves abandoning the territory.
