(Hill) – President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, extending the deadline for Tiktok’s parent company to sell its popular video sharing app for 90 days.
The order punts the deadline for the China-based ordinance until September 17th. The latest deadline was Thursday.
“We have just signed an executive order extending the deadline for Tiktok closures for 90 days (September 17, 2025). Thank you for paying attention to this issue!” Trump wrote in a post about Truth Society and attached a screenshot of his order.
White House press chief Karoline Leavitt confirmed earlier this week that Trump planned to sign another extension, telling reporters that he “don’t want Tiktok to go dark.”
“This expansion will last 90 days. The administration will work to ensure that this transaction is closed, allowing Americans to continue using Tiktok with assurances that data is safe and secure,” Leavitt said in a statement Tuesday.
Trump himself hinted at an extension earlier this week.
When asked if he would give another extension to the popular video sharing platform, the president told Air Force 1 that he “probably, yeah.”
“We probably have to get Chinese approval, but we think we’ll get that,” Trump said as he returned from a group at the Seven Summit in Canada. “I think President XI is [Jinping] I’ll finally approve it. ”
The expected order marks the third extension from Trump since he took office in January.
A law requiring Tiktok’s China-based parent company ordinance to be sold from the platform or face a ban on US networks and app stores was signed last year by former President Joe Biden.
