The Trump organization has rolled out its “Trump 2028” hat on their website in support of the proposal that President Trump could take office and seek a third term.
The president’s son, Eric Trump, was found wearing a new item that is currently on sale for $50 online.
The president and members of his team repeatedly signaled that he was considering a third White House bid. Critics have argued that it violates the 22nd amendment of the Constitution. Though many Republicans are jokingly dispelling their feelings.
The amendment states, “You cannot be elected more than once in the President’s Office, and no one owns or has served as president for the two-year term in which the President was elected.
Despite the clause, Trump has repeatedly told NBC News and other outlets that he “isn’t kidding” about his push to another tenure. Democrats also show they believe they are likely to try and carve out ways to get re-elected.
“We’re very popular, and a lot of people want me to do that,” Trump said of the third season. “But I basically told them, we have a long way, you know, that’s a very early stage in the administration.”
He previously came up with the idea a few weeks ago at the St. Patrick’s Day event with House Speaker Mike Johnson (r-la.). Ireland’s Prime Minister Missial Martin and other MPs present.
Rep. Andy Ogres (R-Tenn.), who supported Trump’s efforts, proposed laws earlier this year to amend the constitution in support of allowing the president to serve a third term.
He changed the language in the 22nd Amendment, saying, “A person elected to the President’s Office more than three times cannot be elected to two consecutive terms and then to an additional term.
However, polls show that despite the president’s claims, most GOP voters don’t want the third Trump term.
In an April Reuters/Ipsos poll, 53% of Republicans surveyed last week said Trump shouldn’t seek a third term. Almost two-thirds of all respondents in the survey agreed that 78-year-old Trump would not be able to run for president again in 2028.
Trump’s organization did not immediately respond to Hill’s request for comment.
