Trump supports the idea of a “clean” continuous solution when government shutdowns are looming

With the prospect of a government shutdown in mid-March approaching, President Donald Trump has approved the idea of an ongoing resolution to fund the government until the end of September.

“As usual, sleepy Joe Biden has left us with total disruption. The budget from last year is not finished yet. We are working very hard in the House and Senate and will pass a clean, temporary government funding bill (“CR”) until the end of September. Let’s try that! ” he declared in the Truth Social Post on Thursday Night.

R-Texas Rep. Chip Roy told Fox News Digital in a statement Friday that he was supporting Trump’s demands.

“I support President Trump’s demand for clean CR. Doge continues to identify cuts, the administration will reprogram those funds, Congress will cut waste and prepare a strong FY26 spending package that reflects Doge and common sense,” Congress said in a statement.

House Speaker Mike Johnson shows that “abnormality” can be inserted into the CR to increase spending.

Johnson commented when he appeared on CNN on Wednesday after Kaitlan Collins asked what program Elon Musk was trying to cut when he handed over the CR.

Johnson said the ongoing solution is primarily “clean CR” and that there will be changes to explain the “new reality” of “less government” and “more efficiency.”

“I’d really struggle to vote neatly [continuing resolution] According to the hill, R-Ariz. “After everything we saw from Doge,” said Eli Crane.

Fox News Digital contacted Crane’s office on Friday to request lawmakers for comment. “I have little confidence that Congress will be able to keep up with President Trump,” Crane said in an emailed statement from an official who described Congress referring to the prospect of perpetual action through legislation.

“Why do we have Doge when it solidifies and can’t be put into CR?” According to Hill, Rep. Ralph Norman, Rs.C. asked.

CQ Roll Call reported that the White House Budget Office has obtained a list of anomalies sent to lawmakers this week.

The document entitled “Assumption of a Continuous Full-Year Solution for 2025” includes some proposed anomalies to increase spending, but others to reduce spending.

For example, one entry on the list states that “anomaly is required to provide an additional 3,654 million Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program to maintain current services for 2.3 million low-income households in 2025.” The document states that “approximately 230,000 households could lose support at the annual CR level.”

However, another entry goes in a different direction, saying, “It is anomaly necessary to include repeated withdrawals of the Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service’s enforcement account at $20.2 billion.

Fox News Digital contacted the White House on Friday to request comment on the status of the CR and to confirm the documents obtained through CQ roll calls, but did not receive a response.
