Trump tells Ice to expand deportation of democratically run cities that are not hindered by protests

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump on Sunday instructed federal immigration authorities to prioritize deportation from democratically run cities after massive protests broke out in Los Angeles and other major cities over the Trump administration’s immigration policy.

In a social media post, Trump called out ice officials to “do everything in their power to achieve the very important goal of providing the largest deportation program in history.”

He added that in order to reach the goalkeeper, “we must expand our efforts to detain, detain and detain illegal aliens from America’s biggest cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.

Trump’s declaration comes after weeks of increased enforcement, with Stephen Miller, deputy White House Chief of Staff and a leading architect of Trump’s immigration policy, saying U.S. immigrants and customs enforcement officers targeting at least 3,000 arrests per day for the first five months of Trump’s second semester.

At the same time, the Trump administration has instructed immigrants to suspend arrests at farms, restaurants and hotels after Trump raised alarms about the impact that aggressive enforcement will have on those industries, according to US officials who are familiar with the issue of speaking on condition of anonymity alone.

Protests against federal immigration enforcement attacks are flaring across the country.

Opponents of Trump’s immigration policy came to the streets on Saturday as they came when Trump held a massive parade in Washington for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army as part of a “No Kings” demonstration.

Saturday’s protests were mostly peaceful.

However, Los Angeles police used tear gas and crowd-controlled ammunition to clean up the protesters after the event ended.

Officers from Portland, Oregon also fired tear gas and projectiles to well disperse the crowds protesting in front of US immigrants and customs enforcement facilities in the evening.

Trump headed to a group of seven economic summits in Alberta, Canada, calling for strengthening enforcement in Democrat-controlled cities on social media.

He proposed to reporters when he left the White House for the G7 on Sunday evening. He proposed that his decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles was the reason for the city’s protests peacefully.

“If we didn’t have the National Guard on the phone, they’d tear up Los Angeles,” Trump said.
