President Donald Trump said he notified Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that “every unsightly homeless encampment needs to be cleaned” within the city or federal government.

In Wednesday’s Truth Social Post, the president specifically mentioned the area near the State Department and the White House, adding that the White House has a homeless camp that needs to be removed, and that the country’s capital must be “clean and safe.”

“If she can’t do that, we’ll be forced to do that for her!” Trump wrote in part. “We are once again proud of our great capital. We thank Mayor Kuppers for your efforts on behalf of the citizens of our country. Hopefully we will succeed!”

Trump previously said he has supported the federal government to take over the country’s capital if he can’t properly manage it, adding that the city cannot remain the same as when foreign leaders came to town.

“They don’t do their jobs,” Trump last month claimed that “they’re too many crimes” and “they’re too many tents on the grass.” These spectacular grasses.”

Despite his criticism of the city, Trump said he personally likes the Democratic mayor. The two met in December to discuss Washington, DC’s priorities. This is the moment when Bowser described it as a “great meeting.”

“President Trump and I both want Washington, D.C. to be the best and most beautiful city in the world, and we hope that the capital reflects the strength of our nation,” Bowser said in December.

DC Black Lives Matter Plaza replaces street murals as part of “evolution” to get a new look

Trump’s social media post on Wednesday also comes the day after Bowser announced that he would replace the controversial Black Life Matter Plaza with a mural made by students and artists, as part of DC’s US 250 project, ahead of next year’s 250th anniversary.

When the plaza was built in 2021, Bowser said it would be a permanent installation.

“The murals inspired millions of people and helped our city through painful periods, but now we can’t afford to be distracted by meaningless council interference,” Bowser’s statement said, referring to a recently introduced bill calling for a change of plaza. “The devastating impact of federal job cuts must be our number one concern.”
