The Trump administration personally urged the University of Virginia to remove the President to resolve the Justice Department’s investigation into agency diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, according to the report.
The Justice Department allegedly argued that James E. Ryan, the university’s president, had not dismantled its diversity, equity and inclusion programs in the administration’s efforts to eradicate Day in higher education, and misrepresented the measures taken to eliminate them, the New York Times quoted people familiar with the issue.
Fox News Digital reached out to the department, university and Ryan for comment.

Federal government moves aimed at higher education include withdrawing billions of dollars from elite universities such as Harvard University. This has been the subject of investigations by at least six different federal agencies on issues such as DEI initiatives on campus, admissions practices and suspected anti-Semitism.
However, this is probably the first time the administration has put pressure on universities to remove the president.
The New York Times said the call for Ryan to be removed has been in several instances for university officials by Deputy Civil Rights Attorney General Gregory Brown over the past month.
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Brown is a contributor to the research. He told university representatives last week that Ryan needs to go so that he can start the investigation, the outlet reported.

Hermeet K. Dillon, the Department of Justice’s Chief Civil Rights Attorney, has also been involved in negotiations with the university, having a law degree from the University of Virginia along with Ryan.
Ryan, who was hired as university president in 2018, focuses on increasing diversity in schools, bringing in more first-generation students and encouraging community service, The Times noted. These efforts disrupt the feathers of conservative alumni and Republican board members, claiming he is “awake too much” and wants to impose his beliefs on students.
Before his time as university president, Ryan served as dean of Harvard School of Education, where he was recognized for his commitment to the DEI program.

The conservative group denounced Ryan for what they viewed as an inadequate step towards compliance with the administration.
America First Legal, a nonprofit founded by Trump adviser Stephen Miller, accused the DEI program of rebranding Trump’s orders at the University of Virginia last month.
“Rebranding discrimination is not legal, and changing labels does not change the content,” said Megan Redshaw, a lawyer for First Legal, USA, in a statement at the time. “UVA’s use of sanitized language and recycled work titles is a deliberate attempt to avoid the law.”

Fox News Digital contacted the White House to comment on the university’s request to kick Ryan out.
