Exclusive: Top lawmakers on the House Education and Workforce Committee support President Donald Trump, whose aim is to potentially abolish the Federal Department of Education, but lawmakers are skeptical.

“I support him with the fact that we need to abolish the Department of Education and bring education back to the state, especially for the K-12, gain control of higher education institutions and make them work.” “It’s a question of whether we can abolish it.”

He says that the Senate threshold for most laws, who are 60, means Republicans could be forced to ask for Democrats’ votes if a bill that would repeal them in Congress.

“We need votes. The president can make executive orders, but it’s time and scope limited. Votes cannot at least completely abolish the Senate department,” Wahlberg said.

But Michigan Republicans signaled that they could still see what change Congress could make.

“So what can we do to power, reform, reform, replace in a way that will make the system work for the time being? I think that’s the question we have,” he said.

Trump is expected to sign an executive order to abolish the Department of Education.

That comes shortly after his new education secretary, Linda McMahon, was confirmed by the Senate on Monday.

House speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) showed his openness in repealing it in a comment to reporters on Thursday.

“The more we push our education controls to parents, local school boards and authorities, the better we will,” Johnson said.
