First Fox: Indiana lawmakers are celebrating an American bicycle company opening a new manufacturing facility in her district after President Donald Trump launched an aggressive tariff campaign against China.
R-Ind. Rep. Erin Houchin told Fox News Digital that Guardian Bikes is expanding its operations there, starting with a new $19 million investment in Seymour, Indiana.
“The number of employment opportunities available, investments in southern Indiana, that is the money you are staying here, money you are not going out of the country.

Now, in his second term, Indiana Republican said he was his first visit to Guardian Bike shortly after he was elected to Congress. At the time, they only had 16 employees, she said.
“At the time, they spoke to us about their desire to be 100% made in bicycle factories in the US,” Huchin said. “Today, over 97% of bicycles are made outside the US. Many are assembled in the US, but their components mainly come from China.”
The Guardian Bike relied on Chinese imports in particular for 70% of its production, she said.
But after Trump’s election in November 2024, she said, “They have been working slowly to be 100% made in the US.”
“They announced a $19 million funding with JPMorgan Chase and launched the first major bicycle frame manufacturing business in the United States,” Houchin said. “This is made possible by President Trump’s trade policy. It’s incredible that the president is currently focused on creating an equal arena for American businesses.”

Houchin said the company is aiming to increase the number of US-made “mass market” bicycles to over 100,000.
“It’s very exciting,” she said.
According to the company’s website, Guardian Bike currently has locations in California and Pennsylvania, with two more expected this year.
The site also promotes the company’s plans to manufacture bicycle frames in Indiana, and vows to move “quickly” once they are fully made in the US.
“We have brought Guardian bike production to the US because we believe the future of manufacturing is local, fast and data-driven. Indiana, especially Seymour, offers the perfect combination of customer-based workforce, infrastructure and proximity.” “It’s not just about building bikes, it’s about building new models for American manufacturing.”

That comes when critics of Trump’s sweeping tariff plans accused him of overturning the global economy.
However, proponents of the plan welcome it as both a strong negotiation strategy and a long necessary solution for the work of moving it abroad.

The cornerstone of Trump’s policy is a 10% tariff on all imports on the US plan for additional mutual tariffs announced earlier this month, and has been removed for countries that have not retaliated against the United States.
However, Trump has collected 145% basic tariffs on all Beijing’s exports to crack down on the growing US dependence on China’s manufacturing industry.
