Two people were killed and three others were rushed to the hospital Sunday after a fiery multi-vehicle crash apparently caused by a wrong-way driver on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Pasadena, authorities said.
The crash on the westbound freeway at North San Rafael Avenue occurred around 8:10 a.m. Sunday when a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue exit ramp, according to a California Highway Patrol report. , which occurred while traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.
The CHP said the crash involved a white sedan, a silver minivan and two unidentified vehicles, at least one of which burst into flames.
Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 8:15 a.m. Two people died in the crash, Derderian said, and paramedics rushed three people to a regional trauma center.
The accident caused traffic congestion in nearby areas and significantly impacted the Colorado Street Bridge, she added. A Sigarat was in effect for about four to eight hours, and the westbound expressway at Orange Grove Boulevard was closed.
