Two restaurants in Los Angeles, a city full of two Michelin Star eateries, have earned three-star acclaim for the first time in the area.

Providence, serving contemporary American seafood dishes in Hollywood, and Somni, offering an incredible Spanish dining experience in West Hollywood, was awarded new honors at a ceremony held at Safe Credit Union Performing Arts Centre in Sacramento on Wednesday night.

According to the Michelin website, restaurants are rated based on the quality of ingredients, the balance of flavors, mastery of techniques, the personality of the chief, and how consistent the menu is over time.

“This moment is the result of 20 years of heart, hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, made possible by our extraordinary team, dedicated providers, loyal guests and the wider culinary community that continues to inspire us,” Providence told social media.

Since being founded by chefs Michael Cimarusti and Donato Poto more than 20 years ago, Providence offers classic menus at $325 per person, with a chef’s tasting menu of $450.

Somni was founded in 2018 at the SLS hotel in Viva Ligurove by famous chefs Jose Andre and Aitrozabara. The restaurant had to close in two years, but after a four-year break, Zabara announced Somni’s return in November 2024, finding a new home in West Hollywood.

“We are honored to receive three Michelin stars. This recognition means the world to us. But more than anything, it belongs to the people behind Somni,” the restaurant told social media.

The restaurant offers a “somni experience with drinks” for $500 per person.

Private cellar room reservations cost $995 per person and have a deposit of $1,000.

The state’s best restaurants are highlighted annually on the scale of one to three stars in the Michelin California Guide.

One Michelin star is awarded to restaurants offering the highest quality ingredients served at the highest standards. The two Michelin stars mean that the Chief’s talent and personality are transparent in highly crafted dishes. The three Michelin stars are the highest honor given to the chief at the peak of their profession, while their cuisine is an art form that turns their own cuisine into classic dishes.

Currently, only eight restaurants have won the prestigious 3-star acclaim in California. Addison in San Diego, Atelier Cren in Northern California, French Laundry, Beneu, Quinz, Single Thread, and more have been added to the list.
