Adolin Nazarian and Isabel Jurado will be sworn in as new members of the Los Angeles City Council on Monday.
They will be sworn in by the city clerk in private. The public ceremony will be held after Tuesday’s regular City Council meeting.
Mr. Nazarian will take over the 2nd District council seat, which includes the eastern San Fernando Valley neighborhoods and other communities such as North Hollywood, Sun Valley, Toluca Lake and Valley Glen. Nazarian won the Nov. 5 election and will replace City Councilman Paul Krekorian, who resigned due to term limits.
Last week, it was announced that Krekorian will serve as executive director of the Major Events Bureau as the city prepares for several major sporting events. As an in-part, he will serve as a liaison for the upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Nazarian, a former congressman and Krekorian ally, defeated small business owner Gillian Burgos in the November election.
Jurado defeated incumbent Kevin de Leon in the 14th District election. This neighborhood includes Downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, and Northeast Los Angeles.
Four current City Council members won new terms in the 2024 election: Councilwoman Heather Hutt (Ward 10), Councilwoman Nitya Raman (Ward 4), and Councilwoman Imelda Padilla (Ward 6). , City Councilman Marquise Harris-Dawson (Ward 8) was sworn in. last week. Hutto is beginning his first term in office since being appointed to replace Mark Ridley Thomas, who was convicted on federal corruption charges.
Harris-Dawson was sworn in as the next City Council president in September, replacing Krekorian.
