For the second year in a row, Ross Ferris’ Millet and Thunderbolt in historic Philippine Town have created a list of the 50 best bars in North America this year. With Mike Capoferi’s precise, delicious, sustainable cocktails, the veteran La Drink won’t find this surprising, considering Max Reiss’ Max Reiss’ stellar bar program is Mirete.
However, this year, Mírate jumped significantly in the rankings, ranking 12th overall on the continent after debuting last year with No. 46.
Conversely, Thunderbolt went from top 10 to 24th at number 8, but don’t worry. The organization touts the bar’s open patio and “bright and refreshing” feel, but shouts drink programs as “depriving the boundaries” in ways that weave community, philanthropy and sustainability. As a result, the historic Philippine Town Bar also won the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award 2025.
Last year, both Capoferri and Reis were busy tackling other new concepts around town. Last December, Capoferri opened Cahuenga Pass’s futuristic cyberpunk themed cocktail bar, Night on Earth. Valleyver has easily won the top spot on the best new bar list of classic flavourful riffs, including a clear take on pornstar martini and an old-fashioned riff depicting the unmistakable nostalgic cinema buttery flavour.
Earlier this month, the rest of the team behind Reiss and Marito opened Daisy Margarita Bar, a Sherman Oaks restaurant. Soon, Wraith will debut another concept on the second floor of Daisy Space. The rum-centric tropical cocktail experience known as Gilbert Perezbar draws inspiration from the folk legend of Gilperez, a 16th-century Spanish soldier, mysteriously transported from Manila to Mexico City.
Mírate and Thunderbolt were not the only LA bars recognized by the 50 best restaurant organizations in the world. Two weeks ago, the next door bar in West Hollywood also grabbed a spot on the North American All-List list, which expanded to the continent’s top 100.
