LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Two people are dead and three are hospitalized after being shot in Reno, Reno on Monday morning.

Police received a call about active shooters in the Bullet area of Grand Sierra Resort before 7:30am

Reno police are allegedly shooting several people before being detained after exchanging suspected gunmen with counterparts officers.

He was injured and taken to a local hospital, but his condition was unknown late Monday morning, according to the Associated Press. The condition of the other victims was also unknown at the moment, said Chris Johnson, a spokesman for the Reno police.

Caroline Ackerman, a spokesman for the well-known community health center, said the hospital’s emergency department had received several cases of gunshot wounds.

Reno residents were warned to leave the area as multiple emergency vehicles, including several ambulances, responded to the shooting.

“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong, but we are not immune to the gun violence epidemic that holds this country,” city council member Devon Reese said in a social media post.

Three more people were treated for minor injuries at the resort, according to Devon Reese, chairman of the Northern Nevada Health Committee. One was grazing by a little finger bullet, one was treated for severe anxiety and injured while running, he said.

The Grand Sierra claims to have the largest casino floor in northern Nevada, and is only a few blocks from Renotahoe International Airport. It is also one of the tallest buildings in the city, with nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.

The resort is one of Reno’s most prominent venues, hosting concerts, sporting events and campaign rallies by President Donald Trump prior to the 2024 election. Located near the California border and just northeast of Lake Tahoe, the town is a popular summer tourist destination.

Hotel guests heard some shots from the resort’s valet area around 7:30am

60-year-old Michael Cisco said he was in his room and heard the pops, and he was going to head to the Barrett for his car. He looked out the window and saw people screaming and running out of the Bullet area.

He said he had held his stomach and saw the incredible man before he fell motionless next to the car. Cisco left the window as the gunshot continued.

“Half an hour after the incident, I realized I could be there and I started shaking,” he said. “That’s exactly where I go.”

Christina Martinez heard the shots just like she did when she stepped into the elevator in the lobby, but when she left the 18th floor they were still out.

Someone in the next room said there was a gunman just outside the main entrance.

“I feel very blessed, but that’s kind of why I had a panic attack,” she said. “What a god, I was just there.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
