Two people ‘miraculously’ rescue themselves from brutal Orange County early morning crash

The two occupants of a vehicle that was destroyed beyond recognition in a crash early Sunday morning “miraculously” survived with only minor injuries, authorities said.

According to the Newport Beach Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Jamboree Road in Newport Beach around 1 a.m.

Multiple units arrived and found a “serious single-vehicle traffic collision” on southbound Jamboree Road adjacent to the Palisades Tennis Club.

“The SUV collided with two utility poles before colliding with a tree, causing severe damage and the engine compartment separating from the vehicle,” the Newport Beach Fire Department said in a statement. “[A responding unit] The fire in the car’s engine compartment was quickly extinguished. ”

The two people in the car at the time of the crash “miraculously” escaped on their own before paramedics arrived and were found sitting on a nearby curb, the fire department said.

They were evaluated at the scene and transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

Officials with the Newport Beach Fire Department warned motorists that “traffic accidents tend to increase” during the holidays and urged them to use extra caution when driving.

“Please slow down, stay focused and drive responsibly,” the NBFD urged. “This holiday season, let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.”
