Two Santa Ana High School students were arrested for stabbing wounds that killed one teen and wounded two in a fight in front of an Orange County school.
The suspect, the 15- and 17-year-old brothers, surrendered to the Santa Ana Police Station hours after stabbing them Wednesday afternoon, police said. They were later arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and taken to the juvenile hall.
The stab wound caused a 14-year-old student to die. He was identified Thursday by Armando Morales of Santa Ana and the coroner’s office.
The injured student is two brothers, ages 15 and 16. Details of the injury were not available but were listed in stable condition.
It was not immediately clear what led to the fight and stab wounds.
After-school activities were cancelled on Wednesday. Crisis counselors will be available Thursday.
Friends and family visited the memorial in a stinging location on Wednesday night.
“I think I’m still dealing with it because I really don’t want to say he’s gone,” said Aaron Chavez, the best friend of the late student. “He was a really fun, caring, funny kid. He didn’t get in trouble. He was like a clown in class.”
The school district issued a statement Wednesday night. “#Sausd is heartbroken this afternoon to confirm that one of the students injured in an incident outside Santa Ana HS has tragically passed away. Two additional students have also been injured and remain hospitalized.
