According to the California Highway Patrol, a one-year-old was hospitalized after two women were killed and the car was driven in the wrong direction by a driver allegedly slammed by two vehicles on 60 highways.
CHP received a report of the wrong road vehicle moving eastward in the westbound lane of the Pomona Freeway near the 71 Expressway around 11pm on Saturday.
Rick Rodriguez, 24, was arrested and suffered severe injuries after being arrested on suspicion of being influenced by alcohol and drugs, CHP said.
The 2013 Honda Accord collided head-on with the 2018 Honda Civic. The Accord was spun out of control and hit another vehicle, the 2019 Toyota Highlander.
Two civilian women – the 29-year-old driver and a 39-year-old passenger from Huntington Park were declared dead at the scene. According to the CHP, the 1-year-old, also a citizen, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Orange County Children’s Hospital.
Commerce’s driver, Veronica Segura, 47, was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
A CHP spokesperson said Cigarato was issued on 60 east westbound east of Ramona Boulevard and Gully Avenue, closing the other lanes and two other lanes. The lanes resumed at 4am on Sunday.
