A Ukrainian citizen has been arrested for attempting to fraudulent elderly women starting at $30,000 in San Bernardino County.
On May 6, the victim was called by a suspect who was identified only as an elderly woman from Loma Linda and pretended to be an inspector for the Sheriff’s Office.
The woman was told she needed to withdraw $30,000 to avoid being arrested for an aggressive arrest warrant. She was then contacted the following day with further instructions.
Fearing to be arrested, the woman withdraws $30,000 from her bank account. When she realized the phone was a scam, she immediately reported it to law enforcement.
Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the case and later identified the suspect as Tylan Schvetz, a 20-year-old Ukrainian man.
During the investigation, detectives are also reportedly told that Schbett had scam several other elderly female victims and raised money from them.
Shvets was arrested for attempted theft for false pretenses, conspiracy and elder abuse.
