Security cameras took the moment a tornado ripped off the Oxnard on Thursday afternoon, causing damage to the roof and carport as residents evacuated inside the home.
Emergency calls from the Ocean-Aire-Aire Mobile Home Community and Neighberling Country Club Mobile Estates recorded panic as the storm struck.
Approximately 12 homes and structures suffered severe damage, including the Vilgas family home.
Home visitor Jerri Vilgas said it was raining, shaking and something had flew. “It was a porch awning,” Vilgas said.
Homeowner Adriana Vilgas has expressed concern over the financial burden of repairs.

The National Weather Service confirmed that one tornado landed in the area during the height of the heavy storm on Thursday, moving under half a mile.

A team of NWS meteorologists and Oxnard firefighters investigated the damage.
Firefighters worked to remove hanging debris and ensure the safety of residents.

On Friday, residents continued to assess the damage.
“Most of them are average workers. It’s pretty devastating,” said Ruth Funk, manager of the mobile home community.
Despite the destruction, no injuries were reported.
“I’m grateful that our home is still standing. It’s fine inside,” Vilgas said.
The power was lost for several hours, but was then restored.
Tornadoes are extremely rare in Southern California, but not unheard of. In 2023, four weak tornadoes were reported in Los Angeles County.
