A US citizen, one of at least 20 people detained by federal agents near Home Depot in Hollywood, said officials assaulted him in the process.
Job Garcia was released from custody Friday after being detained during an immigration raid in the 5600 block of Sunset Boulevard on Thursday. Videos of the operation showed armed agents in detention with several people near the store.
Garcia said he was filming the attack when he witnessed what was going on. He said the agents did not ask about the legal status of the people they detained.
“They just grabbed him without asking him for ID,” Garcia said. “They didn’t ask him if he was a US citizen. They assumed they were of this particular skin color and weren’t documented.”
At one point, the agent turned his attention to Garcia and took him into custody.
“The ice agent rushed at me, put his hands on me, I pushed him out of the way, and he came behind me and worked on me,” he said.
Garcia was released without a fee. The man’s brother, Elias Garcia, said he was in the area for work orders.
The newly released video shows several people detained by federal agents outside Hollywood’s Home Depot. Camilla Rambaldi reports NBC4’s report on June 19, 2025 at 3pm.
“I’m very upset. I’m also very fired,” Elias said. “He was here to deliver and take delivery and take it to a customer, but he couldn’t do it because he was taken into custody. I don’t know the exact reason.”
It is unclear how many people were detained in total during the operation, but Garcia claimed that the agent boasted that he would be detaining 31 people. Councillor Hugo Soto Martinez said the people detained were mostly workers on days looking for work.
Following the attack, the Department of Homeland Security issued this statement.
“DHS and its components continue to implement laws every day in Los Angeles’ great Los Angeles and across the nation, even in the face of danger. Under the Trump administration, 75% of illegal aliens arrested by ICE are pending accusations against convicted criminals or those.” “During today’s operations, individuals plunged their vehicles into law enforcement vehicles. CBP agents were also assaulted during surgery and verbally harassed by CBP agents.
