The 20-year-old US citizen has been detained after a struggle with a federal agent captured on video in Pico Rivera earlier this month, posted by his lawyer on social media.
“Adrian is now resting with his family and staying home!” Miller Law Group posted on Facebook Sunday. “We are very grateful for the overwhelming support of our community for Adrian. We can say more in the coming days and weeks as we continue to pursue justice for injuries and trauma caused by federal misconduct.”
The post mentions the June 17 incident in the parking lot of a large retail center in the 8600 block of Washington Boulevard.
The video footage shows federal law enforcement officers in a physical struggle with Martinez, who works at nearby Walmart. During the conflict, you can hear someone scream, “He’s a US citizen!”

Martinez was eventually taken into custody and placed in a US Customs and Border Guard vehicle. His family later said that Martinez intervened after witnessing ice agents question the man.
“Adrian was nothing wrong with anything, but he was standing up for the elderly cleaners when he was violently assaulted and accused by a masked federal agent,” Miller Law Group said after his release.
Martinez was released from federal custody on a $5,000 bond on Friday. His attorney for Miller Law Group said no assault charges were filed.
US lawyer Bill Essayli, who shared a video of the case on his official government X account, allegedly punched Martinez “an agent patrolling Border Patrol agents in the face after attempting to impose an immigration operation.”
