A federal judge in Boston on Monday blocked the Trump administration from ending federal Medicaid rebates for planned parent-child clinics across the country, finding the effort was probably unconstitutional and violated the group’s amendment protections.

US District Judge Indira Talwani, an appointee of Obama in Boston, granted the nationwide interim injunction of planned parent-child relationships. “Patients are likely to suffer negative health effects if care is interrupted or unavailable,” she said on her order on Monday.

“In particular, limiting the ability of members to provide healthcare services reduces access to effective contraceptives and increases in undiagnosed, unprocessed STIs, threatening an increase in unintended pregnancy and associated complications,” she added.

Judge Talwani said Monday that planned custody had been well demonstrated to the court that it was “highly likely to succeed based on the merits” of the lawsuit. Judges are one way to cite the harm that patients and clinics are likely to suffer as a result of losing Medicaid funds.

A Planned Parenthood lawyer called for Medicaid cuts earlier this month. It was narrowly cleared by a Republican-led Congress and enacted under the provisions of “One Big Beautiful Bill,” signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 4th.

The plaintiffs argued in their submission that the cuts would pose a “grave” health risk to as many as 1 million patients nationwide.

They also pointed to the possibility of an increase in cancer and undetected sexually transmitted diseases, especially in low-income communities.

They also noted that in many areas, unplanned pregnancies could increase as a result of the loss of contraception provided by clinics.

Judge Talwani’s order is expected to apply to nearly 600 health centres operated nationwide by Planned Parenthood. It is almost certain that it will be featured by the Trump administration, and although it could even ask the High Court to grant a temporary administrative stay, the lower court battle will continue to unfold.

The administration also found that it had successfully filed an emergency order with the Supreme Court. As of earlier this month, the High Court has ruled Trump’s favor in most cases filed through “Shadowdocket” or emergency applications.
