Mexico, EPA meets over the Tijuana sewage crisis

EPA administrator Lee Zeldin joined Fox News Live to discuss environmental policies during the Biden era, Tijuana’s US-Mexico sewage crisis, and a recent meeting with Israeli diplomats a few weeks later.

The new US-Mexico deal aimed at solving the Tijuana River sewerage crisis is a “massive” victory for Americans living in the San Diego area, announced this week by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lee Zeldin.

The memorandum was signed Thursday when the EPA said “for decades, raw, raw sewage has flowed from Mexico into Southern California, polluting Tijuana River valleys, closing beaches, closing the atmosphere, harming the local economy, and making people on both sides of the border sick.”

“The Trump administration is proud of this massive environmental and national security victory for Americans in the San Diego area, and this disgusting raw sewage has lived in the community for too long,” Zeldin said in a statement.

The EPA said the deal meets multiple “top Trump administration priorities and key milestones to ensure a 100% solution to the issue.”

“The US, which sent more US dollars to the project until Mexico fulfilled its obligations for other projects, has agreed to announce funding for the EPA Border Water Infrastructure Program to complete rehabilitation of Pump Station 1 and collection pipes for the Tijuana River. EPA refers to Mexico’s wastewater collection pipes, parallel lines of gravity.” “This has increased the total number of projects planned this year from two to six.”

“To this end, Mexico will soon begin the construction process for detours in search of internal funds. This will allow 10 million gallons per day to enter the Tijuana River and bypass the rehabilitation of parallel gravity lines. This will be completed by December 31, 2025.”

He also said, “Several necessary projects have been added in Mexico to take into account Tijuana’s future population growth and operational and maintenance costs.”

A trade struck between us and Mexico to ensure that Texas farmers get much needed water

The South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant is operated on April 24, 2025 to treat water and sewage flowing across the border from the Tijuana River, behind boundary wall fencing along the US-Mexico border of San Diego and Tijuana.

After Zeldin traveled to San Diego in April, he reached this deal after talking to people affected by the situation.

“I have committed to residents who are trying to lead their efforts to develop a comprehensive plan to ultimately end the sewage crisis,” Zeldin said. “Since my visit, the governments of Mexico and the US have worked together to urgently finalize a permanent 100% solution to this long-standing problem.

“This is not just a solution for 2025,” he added. “We devised this agreement to take into account population growth, operations, maintenance costs and other variables that make this solution durable and long-term. [of the Environment and National Resources of Mexico Alicia] Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for partnership, cooperation and commitment to working with us to clean Barcena and the Tijuana River Valley. This is a huge victory for the millions of Americans and Mexicans who have called on us to end the crisis that has been decades ago. ”
