Fresno County, CA (KSEE/KGPE)- A F-35C “Lough Raiders” jet crashed into Fresno County Field Wednesday night.
Naval Air Station Lemoor says the pilots are discharged normally and are safe after crash.
Deputies responded to a crash on a plane near Fresno County Field on Cadillac and Dickenson Streets around 6:40pm.
Nas Lemoore reports that additional staff were not affected.
According to Cal Fire, the collision lit a fire that contained 100% of the fire at 9pm on five acres.
The fire was set aside just before 11pm
Buddy Mendes, Fresno County Supervisor who oversees District 4, told YourCentralvalley.com that a crash occurred in his cotton field. He says this is not the first time an aircraft has hit his land – there was a fatal F-18 crash almost 20 years ago.
But Mendes isn’t worried.
“This is a minor deal. They lost a $60 million plane. This is just a scar for them if they have to do something to compensate me,” he said.
Cal Fire and Lemoore Naval Station responded to the scene.
This is a federal investigation. No further information has been officially released regarding the incident.
