The sisters of U.S. Army soldier Vanessa Gillen, who was murdered and dismantled in what was previously known as Fort Hood, Texas, float the potential Congressional challenge to Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.
Meira Gillen said she is considering a run against Green after seeing his explosion in President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress last week.

Local outlets, including the Houston Chronicle, picked up a potential run for Congress in a report released Wednesday, but said Gillen has not yet filed proper paperwork for the campaign.
Fox News Digital reached out to Guillén on Thursday for comment but did not immediately respond.
Green has represented his very blue Houston Congressional District since 2005 and was not opposed in last year’s election. R-La. House Speaker Mike Johnson repeatedly cried in the president’s first Congress speech, waving his wand with Trump, ordered the sergeant to remove green from the room, and Republicans later voted to denounce longtime Democrats.
In 2021, Meila Guillen founded the I Am Vanessa Guillen Foundation, an advocacy group aimed at voice-overs to military sexual violence survivors.

The murdered Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Gillen deserves the same respect as George Floyd, Biden must act, family says.
Vanessa Guillen, a 20-year-old soldier stationed in Fort Hood, was declared missing from a base outside Killeen, Texas in April 2020, prompting a search for a few months.
Authorities ultimately said she was killed and dismantled in the arms compartment by fellow soldiers, the Army SPC. Aaron Robinson died of suicide on July 1, 2020.
Criminal accused of Guillen’s death was Robinson’s girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar. Aguilar was sentenced to 30 years in August 2023 for his murder accessories.

Gillen’s family says they believe she was sexually harassed during her time at a Texas military base. Army officials say they don’t think Robinson harassed Gillen, but admitted in the report that Guillen was harassed by another soldier on the base a year later.
During his visit to Texas bases, then-U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said there was one of the highest rates of military murder, sexual assault and harassment, later adding that the pattern of violence was a direct result of “leadership failure.” State and federal lawmakers passed laws in 2021 honoring Gillen, who removed some authority from commanders and gave survivors more options to report abuse and harassment.

Army officials disciplined 21 commissioners and non-commissioned officers in connection with Gillen’s death. Fort Hood was renamed Fort Cabazos in May 2023.
