The Ventura man was arrested early Friday morning after a former resident allegedly threatened to kill a police officer who was at his home to help with her property.
Bernard Rahman, 55, was arrested around 2:35am after a few hours of standoffs and an incident that began last week.
Last Saturday, the Ventura Police Station responded to his home to “keep peace” at his 300 block of Catalina Street, and the former tenant gathered things from within.
While officers were on the scene, Rahman left the exit and began screaming at them, threatening to “blow the skull away” before returning to his home.
The threat led police to withdraw, confirming that the former residents were safe and began an investigation into previous allegations against Rahman.
Police say the same former resident tried to pick up her belongings in December but was attacked by Rahman.
Due to allegations of past violent behaviour and belief that Rahman had access to firearms, the Ventura Police Station issued a warrant for Rahman’s arrest, energized the SWAT team and requested assistance from his counterparts at the Oxnard Police Station.
On a Thursday night, around 8:50pm, the large police presence provided a search warrant at home.
Residents of the four homes quickly departed, but told authorities that Rahman refused to leave and confirmed that he also had access to the gun.
The standoff lasted several hours, and Rahman refused to surrender early Friday morning until late in the evening.
At about 2:30am, an armed SWAT officer entered the house and found him in the locked bathroom. Again, he refused to surrender, officials said.
Finally, officers were able to violate the toilet and detain him without reporting the injured.
He was booked into the Ventura County Jail and charged with arrest, resisting batteries and appealing to the threat of criminality. The latter two are felony.
