What initially appears to be a large sinkhole in the Ventura is likely to be a construction obstacle caused by an improperly amortized foundation.
The 25-foot hole was developed at a construction site near Thompson Boulevard and East Front Street Thursday morning, consuming vehicles and structures. The site is then red tagged to indicate that it is unmanned and not safe.
The first report showed that the holes could have developed due to groundwater, but city officials later said it was a “failure of supply” that includes the foundation of the building in under-constructed apartments.

Aerial footage shows one wall at the construction site fell into a cave, damaging the asphalt rot at a nearby facility and several vehicles parked there.
“They didn’t cover the foundations, and they dug a hole and it fell,” neighbor Woody Maxwell told KTLA’s Erin Myers. “I’m sure they can fix this, given what they can fix. It’s just going to be time and money.”
No injuries have been reported and city officials are telling nearby residents that they are not in immediate danger.
