A Victorville family was left shaken and confused on Christmas Eve when their home’s surveillance camera captured an armed man brandishing a gun on their front porch and firing shots at their car.
The Darling family said they had just finished opening presents and getting ready for bed when they were alerted to someone at the door. Surveillance footage shows a man wearing a hood and mask approach the family’s front door, point a gun in their direction, raise his middle finger and walk away.
“I have to stay calm for my family,” Jason Darling said. “Calm and strong. Everyone’s anxiety is rising.”
When Darling saw the disturbing scene, he called 911 and set off his car alarm to alert his home. The masked man fired shots at the family’s car before fleeing.
“One bullet hit here, one bullet hit the engine, one bullet hit the radiator fan,” Darling said of the bullets that went through his car.
The homeowner said he did not know why his family was targeted. Darling believes that the man is taking revenge on someone, but that he chose the wrong place.
“It seems like he had a problem with someone and was angry about something, but we’re not sure,” he said. “It could be the wrong house or the wrong neighborhood.”
This encounter led to the creation of a neighborhood watch group.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has not said whether it is searching for the man.
