A man who said he was called on by authorities in connection with a weekend protest over an ice attack was taken into custody Wednesday after a strange clash involving federal agents on Boyle Heights Street.
The clash was reported just before 11am in the 3700 block of Whittier Boulevard in the community east of downtown Los Angeles.
Security camera video from a nearby business showed the white Mercedes-Benz being pulled up to a stop sign at the intersection. As the car was about to turn right, the SUV collided with the passenger side at the rear of the car, while the pickup blocked the car on the driver’s side.
The video shows the car was stopped between two unmarked law enforcement agencies.
Law enforcement sources told NBCLA that slow-speed collisions are “vehicle containment.” This is a tactic used to force another vehicle to stop.
The driver of the vehicle, trapped between the pickup and the SUV, was detained at the scene. According to the man’s family, he is a 27-year-old US citizen and issued a warrant for participating in the protest in Paramount on Saturday.
The woman and two young children were in the car.
Details of why the man was wanted by the authorities were not immediately available.

Saturday’s demonstrations in Paramount exploded with violence after crowds gathered near the staging area for federal agents preparing to enforce immigration. In a social media post, U.S. immigration and customs enforcement agencies said federal law enforcement officials “confronted violent anti-ice riots.”
Earlier Wednesday, two Los Angeles County men were charged by a demonstration of immigration enforcement in Paramount and two other Los Angeles County men in downtown Los Angeles.
