The new video shows the dramatic moment when a US Navy jet crashed into San Diego Port.
The aircraft (E/A-18G Growler) was splashed into the water near Shelter Island at 10am Wednesday after two astronauts were kicked out.
A video posted on social media shows the jet first hit the nose of water, then littered with dark water and smoke.
“Coronado, a Naval Base, has set up an emergency business centre in response to an accident and assessments of crash sites are underway,” the Navy said in a statement.
The aircraft was part of the Electronic Attack Sentai VAQ 135, and the cause of the collision was under investigation. The security boat was on site immediately on Wednesday, along with environmental and safety teams set up to minimize the impact of the crash fall.
Navy officials said there were no reports of civilian injuries or damage.
In October, an E/A-18G Growler crashed in Washington. Both aviators were killed in the incident, according to the Navy Times.
The U.S. Coast Guard told San Diego’s news station KGTV that the astronauts in Wednesday’s incident were underwater for a minute before they could board the fishing boat. The two were then transferred to the US Customs and Border Patrol, and eventually transported to UC San Diego Health’s Hillcrest Medical Center, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
The aircraft is believed to have collided with the port between Point Roma and North Island Naval Air Station, less than three miles from San Diego.
Navy officials say the public should not touch, approach or collect any debris that could be washed on land. Any fragments found should be reported to local government or naval base Coronado.
