The failure of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s computer dispatch system on New Year’s Eve appears to have been years in the making.
Department officials told KTLA that the failure, which required dispatchers and agents to record critical details by hand and communicate wirelessly, led to a new computer-aided command program (also known as CAD) in December 2023. He said the request was made. A year ago.

The crisis in Los Angeles County can be avoided by immediately modernizing and replacing CAD and RMS systems. ”
Villanueva also criticized the Board of Supervisors for LASD’s “massive staffing crisis” and “transit bus crisis,” arguing that the Los Angeles Times was not adequately reporting on these issues.
Keri Brakinger, who criticized Villanueva for the LA Times, responded on social media, pointing out that she “literally just tweeted” the CAD debacle.
