New details were revealed Monday when a violent single-vehicle rollover crash in the San Bernardino County desert killed four people, kicking out three of them.
In a tragic update, the California Highway Patrol has identified the victim as a 35-year-old man and three boys, one boy and two girls from Yamo, California.
A spokesman for the CHP for Barstow said a crash occurred around 7:45am on Sunday on the I-40 freeway near Milemarker 30, west of Hector Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the truck, identified as a Dodge Ram in 2012, was moving west down the highway as the 35-year-old driver lost control and was bored from the road towards desert territory.
Once off-roaded, the car lost control completely, according to CHP, and rolled what was only described as “multiple times.”
Three people were kicked out of the car and killed in shock, and a fourth patient died at the scene a few minutes later.
According to CHP’s Incident Report Log, one patient was said to be trapped and partially protruding from the vehicle that landed on that side.
Officials did not immediately announce the names involved or the age of the young victim.
“We are saddened by the tragic loss of life and are deeply saddened by the families affected,” CHP said in the release.
The incident is under investigation and said that alcohol and drugs are not currently believed to be causing the crash.
