D-Mass. Sen. Elizabeth Warren joined the Democrats in criticising the Department of Homeland Security’s Christie Noem Bureau after Sen. Alex Padilla stopped Secret Service agents after Thursday with a DHS press conference in Los Angeles.
“It’s time for Republican senators to speak up, and we need an independent investigation into this,” Warren said Thursday night on MSNBC’s “Together with All Chris Hayes.”
“It’s also when Christy Noem resigns. She needs to resign,” she added.
Kristi Noem “wanted a scene” to doubt a completely inappropriate “Democrat Senator”
Senator Elizabeth Warren will speak on the fourth and final days of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held at United Center in Chicago, Illinois on August 22, 2024.
After attending a press conference, Padilla was temporarily handcuffed to handcuffs on a secret service and kicked out of the room, trying to ask the secretary a question in the middle of her remarks. He identified himself as a senator by name, but according to the FBI, he was not wearing a security pin during the incident.
“It’s all on camera. Warren is trying to correct the history of Senator Padilla’s embarrassing behavior, but Americans can see it with their own eyes,” said DHS Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“Senator Padilla has gone into high-security federal facilities pretending to be false and crashed an invitation-only press conference as law enforcement works 24 hours a day to calm violent riots,” McLaughlin continued. “There is no excuse to take part in the press conference and interrupt it. If Senator Padilla asked for a meeting, Secretary Noem was willing to do so, and he was polite for 15 minutes after the press conference.”

Padilla tried to produce a viral moment, but is embarrassed and rude to law enforcement,” she added.
Democrats and Noem were to hold a short meeting to exchange phone numbers. Fox News reported that Noem described the meeting as “honest and helpful,” and Padilla’s office said it was “citizens.”
The press conference addressed the unrest of citizens in the Los Angeles area as immigrants and customs enforcement continue to arrest illegal immigrants.

“The Senator met with Chief Noem this afternoon. He expressed concern amid last week’s military deployment, unnecessary escalation and other issues. He expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing lack of response from this administration,” said Edgar D. Rodriguez, assistant director of communications at Padilla.

“It was a short civil meeting, but the secretary didn’t provide meaningful answers. The senator was simply trying to do his job and seek answers for the people he represents in California,” he added.
Other Democrats, like California Senators Adam Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell, have called on Nome to step down. Republican Sen. Lisa Markovsky blamed how the incident was handled, but like sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, he denounced the incident on his show, hypothetically asking Padilla “Did you wait?”
