Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren defended a call to the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate President Donald Trump on market manipulation and insider trading accusations, saying such an investigation was “completely appropriate.”
“That’s the purpose of the investigation. And it’s perfectly appropriate to make sure Donald Trump, an internal circle of Donald Trump, who is Donald Trump’s family, did not get any prior information and deals on that information.”
Warren, along with a handful of other Senate Democrats, including Ron Wyden of Oregon and Chuck Schumer of New York, wrote to the SEC chief on Friday asking for an investigation into alleged market manipulation following the announcement of Trump’s mutual tariffs and the subsequent 90-day suspensions, which were raised in foreign countries.
“We urge the SEC to investigate whether the tariff announcement that caused a market crash and a partial recovery that enriches the administration’s insiders and friends at the expense of the American people, and whether there is prior knowledge that insiders, including the president’s family, have abused them to trade stocks prior to the president’s announcement.

“Faced with the fear of non-stop media, it is the US president’s responsibility to make markets and Americans reassure the markets and Americans about economic security. Democrats have opposed China’s fraud for decades. And now they’re playing partisan games instead of celebrating President Trump’s decisive action to corner China yesterday.”

When asked on Sunday if Warren actually saw evidence of alleged insider trading, she replied: “Well, just before he made that announcement that he had spiked the stock market, there are people who call on what happened to the purchase.”
She continued on Sunday that Congressional members should also be subject to rules prohibiting individual shares.
“This is a way that works to ensure that the stock market is consistently and ensures that no one is trading inside information. And Jake should apply to Congress, meaning no one in Congress can trade on individual stocks. There’s no senator, no representative.

Before Trump suspending mutual tariffs last Wednesday, he said, “Be Be Cool! Everything will be fine. America will be bigger than ever!” and “This is the best time to buy!!! DJT.” The president had previously said he would not suspend tariffs, but was open to negotiating with other countries.
Trump has suspended only higher customized tariffs than countries around the world have historically set up trade barriers on US goods, as the Trump administration and world leaders dislike negotiating mutual tariffs.
However, China was not part of the tariff suspension and instead suffered a higher 125% tariff after retaliating with its own additional fee on the US
Warren said tariffs could be an important tool in the toolbox when used in a targeted manner, but accused Trump of spreading “chaos” through the implementation of his tariff plan.

“What we have now is chaos and corruption. Donald Trump is putting tariffs on everyone on every product, every product. That’s a 10% tariff. Of course, it’s much higher at the beginning of the week and now in this trade war with China, which is trying to shut down all trade,
