GOP Texas Sen. Mays Middleton told Fox News Digital that interests would not be high, claiming that efforts to redraw Texas’ maps could “save America” when it comes to the Republican constituency battle with Democrats in Texas.
Middleton noted that if the outcome of the 2026 medium-term elections leads to a majority of other razors for Republicans, Congress “knows” that the Texas district bill is responsible for the GOP to maintain its power. Meanwhile, despite Democrats’ attempts to stop the GOP’s rezoning efforts by fleeing the nation, Middleton has expressed little concern that these challenges could be anything.
“Literally, this rezoning bill can save the whole country, and that’s why this fight is so important to me,” Middleton said. “I’ll fight all of my things, make sure this map becomes law, and get five more Republican seats…it can literally save America.”

According to Middleton, he did not express concern about Democrats’ efforts to challenge the bill in Republican districts, including dozens of Texas House Democrats fleeing the state to prevent Congress from doing official business.
He called their challenge “pure” and pointed to a lawsuit originating from Galveston’s hometown, finding that “coalition districts” (a district formed by combining multiple minority groups to reach the majority) were violating the Voting Rights Act. As a result, Republicans argue that Democrats cannot assert their obligation to create such districts to maintain minority voting rights.
“Before the Pettyway incident was decided, we basically combined various minority groups to over 50%, then [Democrats’] Interpretation of the Voting Rights Act, they said it was a protected district, “Middleton explained. And it said that the Galveston County Commissioner Court was re-redempted, the last Democrats on the committee were pulled out of their positions, and they sued and said they were racist. But even so, perhaps a month later, Harris County re-edited and drew the Republicans. They said it was okay, so it shows the outrageous hypocrisy on the left in this case.”

The civil arrest warrant was issued earlier this week by a Republican majority of Texas to force them to return to absent Democrats, but the warrant is not a crime and can only be enforced within state policies and does not reach prison time. Still, Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton called for an Illinois court. There, a massive Texas House Democrats fled to enforce a warrant against the Democrats.
In addition to blocking the Texas Republican rezoning bill, the Texas Democrats’ departure is blocking legislation that is critical to passing through Congress, Middleton told Fox News Digital.

Middleton pointed out that one bill has been lifted. Senate Bill 7 aims to protect biological men identifying transgender women from using all female spaces. Others include taxpayer-funded lobbying bans, the election crime law enforcement bill and the critical flood relief law.
“These are conservative priorities that we have been elected to accomplish, and Democrats, of course, are looking for ways to block illegally,” Middleton argued. “Frankly, they do it in a way that would empty their offices if they don’t come back.”
