At Rockefeller Center, the outdoor 11-ton Norway Spruce will once again dazzle with tens of thousands of LED lights in honor of the Christmas season.
New York City has been putting up Christmas and holiday decorations for the past few weeks, but nothing symbolizes the beginning and spirit of the season more than the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
This year’s tree is from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and is the first tree to come from that state since 1959. The tree is a Norway spruce that is 74 feet tall, 43 feet wide, and weighs 11 tons. The top is decorated with a Swarovski star crown made of 3 million sparkling crystals.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights connected by approximately 8 miles worth of electrical wire.

When is the Rockefeller Christmas tree lit each day?
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be lit from 5 a.m. to midnight every day.
On Christmas Eve, the tree will be lit 24 hours a day, and on New Year’s Eve, the spruce will be lit from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
How long will the Rockefeller Christmas tree be up?
The Rockefeller Christmas Tree will be open to the public until mid-January 2025.
What happens to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree after it falls?
Because trees provide Christmas joy, they also provide housing.
Once the tree is cut down, it will be placed in Rockefeller Plaza, cut up and transported to a yard in New Jersey. There, the two-by-four and two-by-six beams are milled and stamped with the Rockefeller Center stamp. Tishman Speyer, the company that owns and operates Rockefeller Center, will donate the wood to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that helps build and improve homes across the country.
