Water repairs starting today at Porter Ranch in Granada Hills – NBC Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is beginning repairs on Wednesday for a broken water system affecting thousands of customers.

Local government utility is asking its local customers at Granada Hills and Porter Ranch to save water immediately as emergency repairs are required at the local LADWP water pump station.

On Tuesday, the valves that control the flow of water could not be opened while the water system crew was doing repairs at a pump station that connects to the 10 million gallon water tanks serving the area, resulting in the blockage of water flowing into the pipes that serve the area.

Earlier on Wednesday, around 9,200 LADWP customers in parts of both communities, surrounded by Rinaldiavenue in the south, Balboa Boulevard in the east, DeSoto Avenue in the west and hills and hills to the north, are expected to experience a disruption in water service when morning water uses peaks, according to Randa.

LADWP said the crew on the site are functioning as quickly and safely as possible to carry out complicated repairs. To restore and maintain water pressure and supply, LADWP requested support from its large capacity pump and hose providers to replenish water to the 54-inch trunk line that feeds the tank, the water agency said. Additionally, the LADWP crew began removing soil and earth to access and repair valves 20 feet underground.

While the crew is working on repairs, customers may lose water pressure and ultimately use all the water in the tank serving the area, LADWP warns. Water agencies will urge local customers to store as much as possible by turning off sprinklers, washing machines and dishwashers for the next 24 hours.

LADWP expects it will take 14-16 hours for the actual repairs to begin, and the agency expects the repairs to be completed on Friday, August 8th.

LADWP coordinates with the Los Angeles Fire Department to develop a local water supply emergency response plan, including providing water tankers ongoing work, and is also coordinating with the Los Angeles Police Department. Additionally, the agency has set up distribution locations in the following areas to provide drinking water to its customers:

Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park, 20500 Sesnon Blvd, Northridge, CA 91326 O’Melveny Park, 17300 Sesnon Blvd., Granada Hills, CA 91344 Tampa Ave. and Sesnon Blvd., Northridge and Porter Ranch border

Opening hours at these locations are scheduled to be released Wednesday morning.
