Amidst the rubble and rubble that filled the area where their Altadena home once stood, firefighters were able to find a small symbol of family and love that meant the world to the DeSantis family.
Firefighters have found Victoria DeSantis’ wedding ring after her home was destroyed in the Eaton fire. DeSantis, who has lived in Altadena for the past 18 years, accidentally left behind her wedding ring and rings during the evacuation order.
“I took all my rings off because it was so dry,” DeSantis said. “I kept applying hand lotion, and my ring started to shift, so I thought, ‘If the power goes out, I don’t have to look for it.'” I keep it next to my front door, along with my keys, so I can grab it when I go out. I’ll keep it. ”
Sadly, she didn’t pick up the ring during the chaos of evacuations as the flames approached her neighborhood. DeSantis said he asked the firefighter if he could help him find his wedding ring.
“They were just digging through the ashes on their hands and knees, and one of the guys said, ‘I found a ring, but it’s not gold,’ and I said, ‘Oh my god, that’s my wedding ring. ”’ DeSantis said. “I couldn’t believe for the life of me that something so tiny was found among the ashes and rubble.”
Two Altadena neighbors also lost their homes and were among hundreds of families who attended a community meeting in Pasadena on Sunday. Nico Clemons reported on NBC4 News on January 12, 2025 at 11:00 p.m.
The Altadena resident said the family is still looking for their mother’s wedding ring. She said her wedding ring was still in the rubble.
She said finding the wedding ring was a symbol of her family.
“It’s our love,” DeSantis said. “We lost everything. But we have each other.”
