Drivers in West Hollywood will soon notice a drop in speed limits as the city aims to improve road safety.
West Hollywood’s major streets, commercial roads and narrow residential areas will see speed limits drop by 5 mph, the city announced Friday.
“The city is making these changes as part of its Weho Target Vision Zero Action Plan commitment to an effort to eliminate fatal and serious crashes on city roads,” a West Hollywood official said in a statement.
Changes will be made once new signs are posted. Parliamentary Bill 43 allowed the changes to occur as cities could determine their own speed limits.
“Under the provisions of AB 43, the City of West Hollywood will recently retain a traffic engineering consulting company to reanalyse data from the city’s 2023 E&T, allowing certain roads to be designated as safety corridors, pedestrians, cycling corridors, or business activity districts to comply with city law updates.”
City councillors once again approved the recommended cuts at the meeting in January and July. A total of 28 streets will be affected by the change.
