Three ways to anonymously provide information to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department:
Anonymous text message:
You can now text tips from your phone. This process is completely secure and anonymous and is a highly effective and efficient means of communicating securely with us in today’s world.
1. Text “TIPLA” to CRIMES (274637).
2. Upon receiving a tipster’s first incoming message, the system will automatically reply with a confirmation message containing the tipster’s unique tip ID.
3. To submit follow-up information, tipsters simply reply. Nothing else is needed.
4. All follow-up tips, and even replies from the application, will be written below the original parent record, threaded within the story, and displayed with a date/time stamp. A session may be terminated at any time by the Tipster by sending a STOP message to the system or by manually selecting the “End Thread” button from within the application.
Anonymous call:
Calls can be accepted at our call center using the toll-free number 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
All phone lines are encrypted and calls are never recorded. The tip will then be sent to LA Crime Stoppers for further evaluation.
Crime Stoppers guarantees caller anonymity, allowing callers to provide information without fear of retaliation. The program encourages reluctant callers to come forward with information by offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest or criminal charges.
