Controlled burns are planned this week in the Pacific Palisade area as fire investigators continue to investigate the potential origins of the fatal Palisade fire.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Cigarettes, Firearms and Explosives is planning what is called a controlled fire test along the Temescal Ridge Trail, setting the hillside on Tuesday night.
It’s the same area along the trail in the Pallisard Highlands, where a small New Year’s fire sparked the back of the house.
The fire was less than 10 acres in size and the house was not destroyed. Then, six days later, on the morning of January 7th, a fatal Palisade fire began with a powerful Santa Ana storm.
A week after the Palisade fire started, the ATF and federal agents flooded that neighbourhood in the highlands, focusing on the same area on the Temescal Ridge Trail near Skull Rock, trying to figure out whether that New Year’s fire could be connected to the Palisade fire.
The ATF will return to this same area for its fire tests, along with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
LA firefighters make sure the flames do not spread outside the test zone and are tasked with protecting the area.
Fire testing is set to last until Thursday. The official cause of the Palisade fire has not been declared.
