Beloved pets are left behind as more families are being deported due to federal immigration enforcement in Southern California.
Carson Animal Care Center took care of two-year-old Pug-Beagle Mix Coco and two-year-old Labrador Retriver Mix Bruce after being ordered to leave their families immediately.
“Both are very lovely, adorable, adoptable pets,” Sgt. said. Julie Villegas from Carson Animal Care Center. “We’re here to provide them with the support and care they need.”
There are various reasons why their family couldn’t take their dogs with them, Vilgas said. After federal officials made immigration enforcement measures or self-declarations of their families, she said the children sometimes come to shelter for painful breakups.
“It’s a very emotional time,” Vilgas said. “The family is crying and they have a hard time letting go.”
She added that Coco and Bruce are far quieter than their fellow kennel peers and might wonder what happened in their own unique way.
Currently, there are only two dogs affected by immigration enforcement at Carson Animal Care Center, but Villegas expects federal operations to continue.
Animals, including Coco and Blues, are now available for adoption at shelters in Southern California.
