With so many people affected by the massive and deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area, you may be wondering what the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is and how it can help. Some people may think so.
After residents file a claim with their insurance company, they can apply for further assistance from FEMA by calling 800-621-3362 or by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov. If you need additional assistance, you can also go to the California Governor’s Office in the DRC. Emergency Services (CalOES) said.

What is DRC?
The DRC is an easily accessible facility where residents, property owners, and business owners can visit in person to learn more about FEMA and other agencies providing disaster assistance and apply for assistance.
“You can expect one-on-one support from FEMA staff, who will be happy to take the time to explain the different types of assistance available,” CalOES said.

What to bring
According to CalOES, you don’t need to bring anything to visit the DRC for information, but if you want to apply for assistance, it may be helpful to bring the following:
Insurance information (if available). Address and postal code of the affected home. The condition of the damaged house. social security number. Contact phone number, address, and email (if available). Bank account information if you want to set up direct deposit.

Where can I find a DRC near me?
As of Jan. 14, there are two DRCs open in Los Angeles County, with more expected to open in the coming weeks, CalOES said.

The deadline to apply for assistance is March 10, 2025.
